About Us
BijouCREATES is a design company which aspires to pull from West African Traditional craft & Design techniques, alongside 21st British lifestyle aesthetic. To reimagine this into a contemporary design hybrid. The manifestation of this is into multiple expression, of fashion, architectural design, independent research & so much more ...
Our
Story
BijouCREATES was originally developed from the founder's desire to incorporate West African prints and stylings more actively, not only in her personal styling and designs, but to see these influences more widely available within the mainstream global market.

This was first developed in our device case series, taking an everyday item, a laptop case and applying a distilled amount of print fabric, on a western traditional leather envelope style. Becoming popular this initial piece birthed the design fusion for our first series of products and lead to the creation of BijouCREATES.

Now BijouCREATES explores developing work at both an architectural scale, fashion pieces & within independent academic research works. To delve deeper than only utilising the visual iconography within West African culture and art, but to apply and discover the rich sensitivity, of how these influences can used and manifested in so many was.
Through working with other artisans and creatives, diversity of project typologies, partnering with other brands that have a shared ethos or impact intention. And by telling the stories of other West Africans at home and within the British Diaspora
OUR ETHOS
Let’s Work Together
Inspiration
I started creating functional, but still explorative pieces, using afro print fabrics as design details. Currently these typologies are not easily accessible on the mass- market as ready made items.
People are seeking more ways to self-express their style identity whilst still being sleek, clean and modern, especially those within the Diaspora here in the UK and wider world .

DESIGN
Sourcing fabrics and materials which have West African influences, innovative material properties, or a modern design feature, to create unique pieces which are a fusion of British and West African styling

Re-engaging with traditional Sierra Leonean crafts & techniques in a contemporary setting.
Storytelling
Telling the tales of the West African Diaspora through collaboration with other individuals, artisans and collaborative groups in my Design Research Development.
To create a rich breadth of content and pieces inspired from this.
Manufacture
All my pieces are ethically and carefully made and designed by myself or independent artisans/ tailor team in the UK & Sierra Leone.

I am passionate about working alongside artisans and tailors in Freetown to provide more design opportunities and investing back into West Africa & Sierra Leone.
